Christmas Gifts Part 2: Caleb

 

Here are the things we ended up getting Caleb this year. And I don't have a stocking list because honestly I don't know yet what I'm putting in his!!!

 

 

 

 

 

He is getting a black Nintendo DSI from Santa. I found this the same price as Brooke's ds lite so actually his is "nicer" because it has a camera in it! I am afraid Brooke will find out and whine about that, maybe I should have thought that through better lol.

 

He is also getting Stinky The Garbage Truck from Santa. I heard this toy was pretty cool, so I thought he might like it.

 

This was a last minute gift decision actually. He was at Ollie's with Arnold one day and fell in love with the Optimus Prime helmet. So i went back another day and got it. Yeah, I am a sucker when it comes to the kids!

 

Caleb is big into the Hulk right now so we got this action figure.

 

 

 

Found these really cheap on an Amazon lightning deal one day, so had to get them! They were even cheaper than they had had them on Black Friday! These actually ended up on a "most dangerous" toys list. I'm guessing because kids just beat the crap out of each other with them. Oh well.. I hope Caleb doesn't beat his sisters up, haha!

 

Hungry Hungry Hippos! Updated for modern day of course. I loved this game when I was younger. So I hope the kids do, too. They are starting to love games.

 

 

A Little Joker mobile. Worried he wanted the "bad guys" too but Arnold said he has to have the bad guys to fight against when he is playing!

 

A red light saber. He already has a blue one AND a green one. But he just had to have the red. Don't know why he needs 3 of these things. Another hazard here if you ask me!

And the Tag Reader system. This is actually kinda for him and Rachel to share. He is having a tough time learning to read, so I thought this might make it a little more fun for him. Got a few "boy" books to go with it, too. 

Christmas Gifts Part 1: Brooke

 

So I have finished my Christmas shopping! And I have wrapped all the kids' stuff so far and put it all under the tree. They are asking me every day if they can open them yet, and when it is time. They are just like their mama.. can't wait for Christmas to get here ;) Anyway, I posted earlier in the year my ideas for their gifts this year, and now I am going to post what they ended up with. If anyone has these things and has any reviews/tips/warnings, I'd be happy to hear them! And also-- If it looks like I spent a ton this year, don't be fooled. I got the most out of buying used this year, and also buying huge deals I found. I am a bargain shopper ;) Arnold wanted us to buy their DS' used actually, to see if they would actually take care of them. They are pretty rough on stuff still! Anyway.. here is Brooke's list. I will do Caleb and Rachel's later!

 

 



 

 

 

 

Brooke's Santa gift this year. A pink Nintendo DS. It is what she has been asking for all year and asked Santa for when we went to visit him.

 

 This is also going to be out from Santa. The new Furby. Kinda creepy? Maybe. But the kids asked for this too. This is the actual color I got too, they had lots of choices. I am glad I found one that was cute and girly! :)

 

A new lalaloopsy for her collection. I loved this one, so that is the one I picked! ;)

 

 

The Lalaloopsy Treehouse. Here is an example of one of my good deals. This bad boy goes for $30+ on Amazon. I bought it from a girl for $5!!! She had opened it and her daughter wasn't interested, so she packed it back up and sold it. My best score ever, probably :)

 The Lego Friends Treehouse. First time EVER getting legos in this house, so I am sort-of worried. Arnold tells me the little pieces are a pain. but I think it will be fun to help her put together. Love they came out with "girly" sets finally!!

The Polly Pocket Rollercoaster. This is the toy I waited in line for on Black Friday. Don't know if I'd do it again, but at least it's a cool toy! I'll admit-- I can't wait to play with it either :)

 Melissa and Doug Sticker Pad house. I kinda see a trend on things I'm getting Brooke. Stuff I used to love as a kid. I LOVED stickers and sticker scenes. Hope she likes it, too.

 

Always gotta have a Barbie in the mix. I used to swear they wouldn't get Barbies, but I caved. At least this one isn't dressed provacatively. Brooke always likes playing dr so I thought she would like the Doctor Barbie.

 

 

 

STOCKING STUFF NOW

Justin Bieber mini nailpolishes. Seriously? But I knew she'd flip. Again, I wouldn't spend the $10 or so these are in store. I bought them NEW in box from a lady for $3. So yay me!

 

 

I got her a giant pen.. her's is Princesses, but I couldn't find a pic.

 

Ivory Ice Crystals Mini Lalaloopsy. Every year Target comes out with holiday lala dolls! I scooped this one up this year for her stocking. I hope to collect all of them.

Of course there has to be some candy in there, and what yummier than Reese's Chocolate trees? I want some of these in MY stocking, too! ;)

 I got her an owl mosaic craft too, it was just a $1 thing at Dollar tree but I couldn't find a pic so this is the closest I could get. Had to get an owl thing in there, too! ;)

 

Annnnd to round off the list, the Justin Bieber book, "Believe." Brooke was begging for his book at their bookfair this year, but it was small and $14 or something crazy. I wandered into Tuesday Morning store awhile back and found this for $5. Problem solved ;)

Soooo, there is Brooke's list! I had so much fun shopping this year! Let's face it, I have fun shopping every year. I kindof go overboard at Christmas, but we don't buy the kids a lot of stuff throughout the year, and I buy a little at a time, so i feel it's ok :)

Playing Catch Up!!

 

 

Well if you have been wondering where I have been, I have not been blogging much lately because I ran out of picture storage on blogger! Yep, I have actually posted so many pictures in the past 3 years that they finally cut me off. So I have to pay $2.50 a month for more storage if I wanted to keep being able to post. Did I pay it? Yep. To some it might be silly.. but I really didn't want to stop my blogging, it is important to me! I love posting pics and stories for my family to read we don't get to see often. And it's my own little "baby book" if you will, since I never was good at working on the *actual* baby books. Sooo... here are some updates on what's been going on with us lately!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rachel and I went to lunch with our good friend Katie. Katie is a family friend who has always meant to alot to me. I grew up in the same church she was in and she was actually my "mentor" when I was going through confirmation as a preteen (I think that's a Methodist thing.) Anyway, we went to Jason's Deli. I had only been there once. I got a turkey and swiss sandwich and chips and it was soo good! They even give you free icecream cones at the end of lunch, so Rachel loved that part (ok and I did too!)

 

The kids' grandparents invited us up to the Country Club where they live, for a "Breakfast with Santa." I took this opportunity to dress them up in their nicer Christmas outfits, and have them all matching in red ;) It took several tries to get decent pics of them though, and even in this one two of the kids aren't even looking! Oh well, they are cute ;) And Brooke looks so grown up, the necklace she is wearing is mine. She asked to wear it and I couldn't say No! :)

 

Thought this was precious. Brooke was excited to sit on Santa's lap. She said she was glad she got to see him because there were a few thing she had "forgotten" to put on her list. Ha!

Mom took this picture of all of us. I wish it wasn't blurry! The kids had just gotten balloons made and their faces painted before we left. They had a BLAST!

 

Over the weekend, the band Arnold is in played a Benefit Concert. It was to help a local little girl. She has already had 3 heart surgeries and is only 6 years old! I cant imagine, it broke my heart. This concert was kid-friendly, so the kids got to go with me. They were excited to finally see their daddy, because they usually play at bars ;) The kids danced the night away!

 

We celebrated my friend Natalie's daughter's 4th birthday that weekend as well. They had a huge castle blow up in their backyard and the kids loved it. Arnold went down the slide with Brooke one time, and I love the expressions on their faces when they got down. Priceless!

A friend of mine who does personalizing of shirts, bags, cups, etc. made these cups for me, for the kids' teachers this year for Christmas. I love the way they turned out! I was thinking of stuffing them with hershey kisses and a Target giftcard. I absolutely love Brooke and Caleb's teachers. They are loving and patient with them. I couldn't do what they do! They basically see the kids more than I do! They deserve some appreciation now and then :)

Earlier in the week Arnold and I rented the movie "The Campaign" from Redbox. I have wanted to see it forever now, I heard it was really funny. Well it WAS funny, but there were several very raunchy and crude parts in there, just to warn you! (of course, Will Ferrell was in it!) But it was a fun evening with Arnold hanging out just us two, watching the movie. What did we do before Redbox? Renting movies is so cheap now! And I always get free codes to use too! I didn't pay a dime for that movie! We rented "The Watch" with Ben Stiller to watch tonight :)

The "Husband Project" is going well. The other night I made a cute little sign that said "You are a Star! I know you will do great at the show tonight. I Love you!" And laid out a Kingsize pack of Starbursts candy for Arnold (before his concert.. get it? STAR? ;) I know it is totally cheesy but it was a fun little gesture to let him know I was thinking of him :)

Over the weekend I finished up my Christmas shopping (basically) I actually took Rachel and Caleb out with me like a crazy woman, and braved the mall and some other stores, on Saturday afternoon. The crowds were INSANE and it was hard to even find a parking spot. But we were able to get a bunch of things. I even got Brooke some new clothes because she was really needing some. Before we went home I stopped by and got us soft pretzels. That used to be a tradition with my mom and I when she took me to the mall as a kid. Fun to carry on the tradition ;)

I am reading some books while I wait to see my friend Jackie again, who will have the 6th Harry Potter book for me to borrow ;) I started another Neta Jackson book, about the "Yada Yada Prayer Group." These books are awesome! My mom and I have both read them. She wrote a new book this year and I didn't even know it until I saw it in Ollie's one day. I highly recommend her books!

I wrapped all the kids' Christmas gifts last night! I got in the mood and just decided to get it done. Each one has their own wrapping paper (including Justin Bieber paper for Brooke ;) And when I was done I put all of them around the Christmas tree. Our first year putting them there, I hope it goes well! In the past we have kept them stored in our room until time because we knew the kids would get into them and try to open them! It looks so special and cozy in our living room with the tree and all the presents around it.. I am so excited! Only 2 more weeks! ;)

What I'm Loving Wednesday

~I'm loving that our Toys R Us layaway will officially be payed off this week! I get to go pick it up and bring everything home and wrap it.

~I'm loving that tomorrow Rachel and I get to go have lunch with a long-time friend, Katie. I don't get to see her often, so I am very excited!!

~I'm loving how much fun it's been with Bob, our Elf on the Shelf, this year. I have been taking pictures of what we have been doing with him every night, so I can look back later on. The kids have been excited to get up every morning and find him.

~I'm loving that the kids' school pictures came back the other day and they were fantastic! We had to pre-order so we didn't know if they would even turn out ok but they did. Both kids eyes were open, smiling, and Brooke's hair even looked good! I ordered extras for the Grandparents, too.

~I'm loving that Rachel came and crawled into bed with me the other night when she wasn't feeling well. Poor girl was coughing and said her ear was hurting. She snuggled right up to me and slept there the rest of the night. Arnold did get kicked out, though! ;)

~I'm loving that Arnold and I watched the movie "Abduction" last night on Netflix. I went to see it when it first came out, with my friend Natalie. I mostly just wanted to watch it again because of Taylor Lautner! ;) Arnold thought it was pretty good because he likes action movies. So it was a win-win! :)

~I'm loving the book I am currently reading.. called "Not a Fan." It's a book about becoming a "Follower" rather than just being a "fan", of Jesus. It is really hitting hard with me and I am realizing things about myself that I probably need to work on! But I love the book!

~I'm loving that we have SUCH a fun weekend planned! The kids' grandparents are taking them to a Breakfast with Santa on Sat. morning. The band Arnold is in is having a benefit concert Sat night for a local little girl with a lot of serious medical needs. And Sunday afternoon we are going to a good friend's daughter's birthday party! Lots of stuff to look forward to!

~I'm loving that TWO days this week the weather reached the 70's! In December?! That is just crazy. But it was fun to be able to play outside for awhile. And not freeze when I left the house to go pick up the kids after school!

~I'm loving that I have been able to get a lot of stuff done around the house this week. I am working on seriously de-cluttering the place before Christmas, because I know a lot of new stuff will be coming in. I cleaned out the back of the van yesterday. Today I cleaned our our "junk drawer." I have also been working on the girls' closet. Next is MY closet!

~I'm loving that Arnold and I have a double-date with some friends planned next week! It will be so nice to get our by ourselves, and have a relaxing dinner :)

~I'm loving listening to lots of Christmas music these days! We have been listening to the new Justin Bieber Christmas album they got from Bob the elf. Did you know JB made "The Little Drummer Boy" hip hop?! I must admit I kindof like it though.. it is already one of my favorite Christmas songs to begin with!

~I'm loving that tomorrow is payday! We have a lot of bills to pay and things to do, so it will be nice to get that taken care of!

~I'm loving that Glee just released a new Cd this week! Another one to add to my collection!

~I'm loving having the Christmas tree lit up every evening while we are at home. It is so pretty to look at, and really gets me into the Christmas spirit! :)

The "Husband Project"

As I was looking up ideas on Pinterest of things to do with the kids this Christmas season, I saw an idea of "Countdown to Christmas: Blessing your Husband." It gave little ideas of things to do every day leading up to Christmas to make your husband feel special or appreciated. And I firmly believe you should always do these sorts of things, but it is hard to remember sometimes when we get caught up in the busyness of everyday life. So I decided I wanted to try doing some of these things for Arnold. I have been doing it for a couple of days now, and he has already started saying "wow, you are being so sweet to me!" So I guess it is working ;) It was broken down into ideas of Services, Compliments, Activities, and Gifts. So i used some of their ideas and also added some ideas of my own, and made up a notepad on the computer of things to do. I call it the "Husband Project" haha. So far Arnold doesn't know what is going on but he may figure out before its all over. So here are some of my ideas for the month. Just wanted to share, in case anyone else wanted to try something similar :)


Services:

*Give him a backrub
*Give him a footrub
*Take him a warm towel right out of the dryer after his shower
*Take him lunch from his favorite place to work one day

Thanksgiving Weekend 2012

 

 

Thanksgiving morning we all got up and turned on the parade to watch. The kids didn't seem too interested.. weird, because I always loved watching it as a kid! We were due over at Mom and Dad's for lunch but had some time to kill, so we went to walk around Kmart for awhile (yeah, we lead exciting lives! ;) There were of course a lot of deals going on, but I held back, and I was proud of myself. Especially with the $4 Mini Lalaloopsy dolls deal! We got over to mom and dad's around 11:30am. My brother and his girlfriend were in town visiting which was great, because we don't get to see them that often anymore. They were sweet and played a board game with the kids while I browsed through all the Black Friday ads (a tradition, haha) I love seeing all the deals, even though I didn't think I'd go out to get anything. We had lunch around 1:30pm or so. My mom is an awesome cook, and she had made quite the spread! We had a fried turkey, ham, roasted asparagus, mashed potatoes, veggies, rolls, sweet tea, oreo cake balls, and cherry pie, and chocolate cheese cake. I ate so much my stomach was hurting afterwards!!! Mom even made a special "punch" type drink for the kids, so they could have a special drink too ;) After lunch we all hung around the house for awhile and took lots of pictures! Mom and dad packed us up some leftover food to take home.

 

That afternoon we took the kids over to see their other grandparents. They had already had their meal so we didn't eat with them, but of course the kids begged for snacks! What is it with kids and snacks.. I don't see how they can eat all day long! Anyway, as soon as we got back home the kids said they were hungry AGAIN, so we heated up the leftovers for them to eat. I had said I wasn't going out to do any Black Friday shopping, but I saw a few good deals, so decided to try my luck at Toys R Us. they were opening at 8pm this year.. and giving away giftbags with free stuff to the first 200 people in line. I got up there around 7pm and waited in line an hour just to get to the door, then another 30 mins to get IN and check out. Of course I MISSED the giftbag by just a few people (figures.) But I did get Brooke the Polly Pocket Roller Coaster for 60 percent off, so at least I got something! I usually am scared of Black Friday, so I am shocked I went out at all. I even went by myself! I met a few people in line, and had fun watching everyone come out and get to be nosy and see what they bought ;) I also went by Michaels to get their 7-pack set of canvases since I am being all crafty this year! And picked up a few Melissa and Doug food sets and got to use a coupon too. There was no wait there.. that is my kind of shopping! I ended up getting back home around 9:30, so not too bad. But I did miss "Glee!" Ahhhh, I guess I will have to catch it on the internet later.

 

Friday Brooke and I went to the Southern Christmas Show with mom. It is a tradition that Mom and I go every year, and this year Brooke decided she wanted to "be one of the big girls" and go with us, so that was fun. We drove down to Greensboro for the show. If you have never been, its pretty neat.. there are tons of vendors selling homeade goods, everything from candles, soap, wooden toys, ornaments, etc. There are TONS of things to look at and buy. And the crowds are just as bad as black friday, but it is still fun. Mom buys us these beautiful pewter ornaments every year to add to our collection, and this year we picked a crab for me (I am a Cancer sign), a banjo for Arnold, a cheerleader for Brooke, a tin soldier for Caleb, and a carousel horse for Rachel. After walking around awhile Brooke said she was hungry and was begging for lunch. I knew she wouldn't last long! So we finished up our shopping and went to lunch down the road at Fatz. I love that place.. especially the yummy bread they bring out before ;) Carbs are my weakness! I had the chicken wrap, and it was so yummy!

 

Friday evening Mom and dad took the kids overnight for us, so Arnold and I could have a date. We don't get them very often, so we were thrilled! We went to dinner at Quiznos. I haven't been there in awhile, but really love their subs. Then we went to do more black friday shopping.. crazy, I know. We went to pick up more crafting stuff for our projects, then went to Target to look around. I was hoping they'd have the Little People Princess pack so I could get it for Rachel's Princess Castle (her Santa gift this year) but of course they were all sold out. boooo! We ran into a friend from church there, and they just had a baby earlier in the week.. so sweet! :) Then we went to the Christian bookstores and I got some books I had been wanting to read for only $5 each! Yay! I now have a seriously huge pile of books to read, no clue how long it will take me to finish, since i am still working on the Harry Potter series! Eventually it got so it was freezing outside and windy, and Arnold was practically begging to go home, so we did. When we got home we carried in everything from the trunks of our cars that we have bought them for Christmas (we had been storing them there) and looked over everything. I think its safe to say the kids have enough AND beyond what they need for Christmas. I think I get a little too excited?! We were going to start wrapping, but by then we were exhausted, so we just went to bed. We got a full night's sleep with no interruptions and it was so wonderful!

 

Saturday morning we went to pick the kids up from mom  and dad's, then came home and made some homeade pizzas for lunch while the kids played with a few new toys we had gotten them (earlier in the week from the online yardsales) I got Rachel some dollhouse furniture to go in her dollhouse, Brooke a few Barbies and clothes, and Caleb the "Operation" game. They had so much fun playing.. it had been awhile since I had dressed Barbies up in clothes.. I forgot how hard it was to get those things on! Saturday afternoon I also got a nap!!!! :)

 

Sunday we went to church. This week's lesson was on "generosity" which is something we all need to remember, especially this time of year! We have more than what we need, and need to remember others that may not have anything at all. After church we came home and made lunch and Arnold worked some more on painting the living room. After 7 years of living in this house our walls are finally a color instead of white! It is definitely taking some getting used to! That evening we watched the 4th Harry Potter movie that my friend Jackie let us borrow. It was pretty good, but pretty creepy at the end! and I had NO idea that Robert Pattinson played Cedric's character... that was funny to see him in the movie!!!

Thankful

I know Thanksgiving was the other day, and I am a little late on this, but I wanted to do my traditional "thankful" blog and write about what I am thankful for this year.


~God. Thankful that he sent his son Jesus to die on the cross.. I am so unworthy, but he paid the price for me! Amazing! And he has helped me through some really difficult times, especially in the past few years. Never leaves my side.

~Arnold. My husband of almost 7 years now. We have had a lot thrown at us in the years we have been married. A few times it was extrememly rough and I didn't know if we would make it through. But we did, and we are now stronger than ever! Arnold is very respectful of me, and treats me as an equal. He knows I hate to cook, so he will cook several nights for us. He doesn't mind watching the kids while I get out for a break once in awhile. He is always there to support and love me. I love having someone to be so close with in life.

~My 3 Kiddos- Brooke, Caleb and Rachel. Each one has changed my life in a new way. They are all different and have so many unique qualities. Brooke is the independent one, always on the go, and sometimes bossy, but she means well! Caleb is the sensitive one (like his mama!) shy to warm up to people, but he is really caring and thoughtful of others. Rachel is my little firecracker. She is always funny, the center of attention, and always into something. The 3 of them keep me so busy and sometimes so stressed but being a mother is the best thing I have ever done! I was made for this!

~My Parents- My parents have been married for 40 years now and have shown me what a strong, loving marriage looks like. They gave me a great childhood and so many opportunities in live that I didn't even really appreciate until I grew up and had my own kids. They still help me out when I need it, even as an adult. Thankfully they live pretty close and we get to see them pretty often still. They are wonderful grandparents to the kids and spoil them rotten! And don't mind having them over for a night one in awhile so Arnold and I can get a datenight!

~My brother- We give each other a hard time, but I'm glad I have him. I have always felt very protective of him. He doesn't live very close anymore and that sucks because I miss him! And I wish the kids got to see their Uncle Alex more often. he has turned into an awesome man and he is one of the hardest workers I know. I am proud of him!

~My Friends- I have some of the best friends a girl could ask for-- no really!! They are so fun to be with, and when we get together there is ALWAYS something crazy going on, and that is where I get a lot of my blog material ;) They are always there to listen when I need to vent, or to offer some advice or a shoulder to cry on. They have helped me through some really rough times before, and never left my side. A few of the closest ones probably know more about me then maybe even Arnold does! ;)

~My Church- We have found a wonderful church that we actually love going to every Sunday! The people are so friendly there and we have made some great friends. We have gotten very involved and even became members last year. I work with the baby class and get to snuggle sweet babies twice a month. The pastor is young and always preaches on stuff true-to-life that I can relate to, and I ALWAYS take something away from the message! I have become so much closer to God since we have been going there, and become more outgoing as well.

~Arnold's work- Even in this tough economy, Arnold still has his job, and it is a great one. He has a good boss that really cares about the employees, and is understanding if stuff comes up and he needs to miss a day. Arnold has a lot of close friends there as well, and people  that really help out when others need it. I know Arnold enjoys going to work every day, and that is a blessing. He works hard so I can be a stay-at-home-mom right now.

~The Pregnancy Care Center- I am thankful that I have found a wonderful organization that truly helps women in need. Being pro-life, I love being a part of this center where I feel like I can make a difference. Thurs night have become great.. I get to help out where I know I'm needed, and I get to meet all kinds of people and love on people and babies.

~My country- Thankful to live in the USA! Where we have so many freedoms that we sometimes take for granted. We are blessed with so much, and even if we don't have ALOT, we sure do have a lot more than most other places in the world! We are able to worship in the way we please, and the service men and women have fought for the freedoms we enjoy every day.. and I am oh so thankful!

~The kids' school- The kids go to a great school. Their principal was actually named Principal of the Year last year! The teachers and staff there really seem to care about the students. We have become close to alot of the teachers there, and I feel like I can always go to them with any concerns I have. They have taught my kids so much, and brought out the best in them.
